going to the circus
clown energy
A few weeks ago, I was visiting my friend’s area in Madrid called Alcalá de Henares. While I was on my way there, I saw an enormous number of posters for a circus that was coming around town. They were in every possible blank space available. In one roundabout, there was one on every light pole. So this thing was legit.
When I left the hangout, I couldn’t stop thinking about the circus and why there were so many posters for this one event. Then I thought about how I hadn’t been to or heard of a circus in quite a while.
So I decided to take a chance on this, and those posters were everywhere, practically begging me to go.
I am glad I did! It was a lot of fun. First, there were no animals because that practice is illegal in Spain, so I felt really happy about that aspect. Second, I didn’t go alone; I went with two other friends, and we were the only people there without children, which was interesting. We also snacked on some pretty great popcorn while the show went on. Third, even though the circus was in Spanish, it was easy to guess what the plot was and follow along. Also, the target age group has the same Spanish level as me, so that made it easy too.
As someone who enjoys live performance, I really liked all the different acts they had. There were acrobats, jugglers, tightrope walkers, trapeze artists, and clowns. One of the clowns did an amazing trumpet solo; the breath control was impressive. It was a jam-packed show that had its slow moments. One example was when performers messed up, they would perform it until they got the trick, which was new to me. Overall, I was happy that I went, and I was nervous at first because I didn’t do any research on anything, but it was wholesome. The loud music, the large red and white tent, the funny shoes, and at some point, Bluey, a person in a rat costume, and another in a chicken costume came out. It was all a little nonsensical, but a great way to end the week.

Hopefully, there will be more circus moments to come!

I love circus, especially their intensity. I miss good popcorn!
